Of course, I'm used to this workflow, but I wonder how hard we should
push for it; some translators may find it very inconvenient.

Unless there are mistakes in the translation; on the other hand,
if some assumptions hold (like avoiding SSIs and using full URLs
for images and CSS), then people will be able to just open the files
in their browsers or run xmllint.
