Hi!

After some problems were discovered with enigmail and GPG, we updated
the Guide. They are fairly minor updates with big implications.

Step 1.B: Added

"Enigmail versions prior to 2.0.6 have serious security issues. Make
sure to install version 2.0.6 or later. The current version is 2.0.6.1."

Important: Security tips: Added

"For greater security against potential attacks, you can turn off HTML.
Instead, you can render the message body as plain text. In order to do
this in Thunderbird, go to View > Message Body As > Plain Text."

Please feel free to update translations at your convenience.

Thank you!

Cheers,
Molly

Hello Molly,

Is this change only for GNU/Linux, or does it also apply to MacOS and
Windows?

There seems to be a problem with Trisquel 7: Enigmail just can't update
to version 2.0.6. The latest version in belenos-security/universe is
2:2.0.6-0ubuntu1~14.04.1, but the installed version has been
2:1.8.2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 for months.

Is it me, or does anyone else have this problem?

Best,
Th=C3=A9r=C3=A8se

I can reproduce it; a similar issue is with Trisquel 8: the version
it installs is 2:1.9.9-0ubuntu0.16.04.1+8.0trisquel1.

I wonder if the fixes were backported.

The issue is with Icedove: the latest version is 38 (on Trisquel 7 at
least), but Enigmail 2.0.6 requires version 52. So I switched to real
Thunderbird. Good bye Icedove, see you after you catch up.

Hello, David,

Th=E9r=E8se noticed that enigmail doesn't update to 2.0.6 on Trisquel 7
(supposedly because icedove is too old); I can confirm that it
also doesn't update on Trisquel 8, despite the version of
icedove being 52.8.0.

I can see that you participated in
https://trisquel.info/en/issues/21019 where updating icedove
is discussed; could you bring the issue into attention of Trisquel
maintainers?

Thank you!

 \begin{frame}{Free Software}
   A program is free software if the program's users have four essential freedoms:
   \begin{itemize}
- \item Run the program as you wish
- \item Study how the program works in a source-code form
- \item Help others by distributing exact copies of the program
- \item Contribute to your community by distributing your modified versions
+ \item Run the program as you wish, for any purpose
+ \item Study and adapt how the program works, \textbf{and reuse the adaptation}, for this freedom one must receive the complete corresponding source files
+ \item Help others by distributing --- sharing and selling --- exact copies of the program

Hi everyone

Victor, I updated your PO file and regenerated index, mac and windows
from it.

If everything is OK, I can push the updated translations (Spanish,
Russian and French) to the live repo, they are already in my local copy.

Have a nice week-end,
Th=C3=A9r=C3=A8se

There were new flaws discovered in enigmail and GPG, which you can read
about:

https://thehackernews.com/2018/06/gnupg-encryption-signature.html?m=1.

I've updated the ESD, informing users to install the most up-to-date
verions of GPG, GPGTools, and Enigmail. These updates are in the
GNU/Linux, Mac, and Windows versions.

Cheers,
Molly

Hello Molly,

There are several issues with the update:

- The note about GnuPG, GPGTools and Enigmail follows a paragraph that
says: "If you already have an email program, you can skip to Step 1.b."
So, people who have an email program are likely to skip the note. In any
case, GPGTools isn't defined yet. Why not move the note to step 1.b?

- Windows users know nothing about GPGTools. What they install is
Gpg4win. The patched version is 3.1.2:
https://www.gpg4win.org/change-history.html

- GnuPG 2.2.8 is not available in the "stable" and "testing" Debian
repos. You'd need to install sid (unstable) to get it. Trisquel 7 and 8
are out.

Best,
Th=C3=A9r=C3=A8se

BTW I've just tried to build GnuPG 2.2.8. make check returned an error
with 39 tests failed. I think I'll wait until 2.2.9.
