Hello everyone,

Have you been able to see any test page lately?
I am trying to check the updated French pages online [0],
using the address provided in the wiki [1], and all I
get is "Forbidden. You don't have permission to access
/master/fr/ on this server".

Is [0] still valid?

Thanks for any advice.

Best,
Th=C3=A9r=C3=A8se

Agreed. I believe this would've been helpful
for the Turkish translation (and I can speak for sure
for the Russian one).

Funny enough, the graphics seem to go directly from master
to the live website, so I wounder why can't the translators
just update their texts without much overhead; for example,
the French translators could put down the fundraiser (to say
nothing of updating the versions of the translations in the header).

Dear friends,

I've performed small updates on Turkish translation to solve some
problems (like wrong menu display), but I couldn't see them on live
version. Is it probably my updates not become live yet or am I doing
something wrong? Is there any possibility to see online the current
version of repository?

Best,
Tahir

Yes, this is a good point. Overall, the system for publishing and
reviewing the translations needs work so that it is efficient and
sensible for translators -- right now there is a lot of overhead and
difficulty that's unnecessary.

This week I'm going to work on improving the situation, and I'll also
publish the new French version. I'll keep everyone updated and might
send around some ideas of new repo structure for your review.

Are you going to publish the French version as-is? I assumed it would
be published together with the Russian and Turkish versions, and fixed
the language lists accordingly. The pages look OK locally, but seeing
a preview on a test server would be nice. What's wrong with
https://enc-dev0.fsf.org/? (I also tried http:// but there seems to be
a redirection to https).

Thanks for your effort to make things easier.

Best,

I just published v4 of the French guide to the live site, though I had
to do it in a bit of a sloppy way because, as I said before, we don't
have the repo set up in a way that is actually friendly to translations.

I'm now most of the way through a design for a new git structure and
editing guidelines, which I'm planning to send around to you all for
feedback.

Hi translators,

Unfortunately, the language selectors across different translations have
become hopelessly out of sync with each other, and there isn't a way to
change it across all the languages.

I was wondering if somebody wanted to do a quick scripting project to
make it easy for us to update all the language selectors and keep them
up-to-date.

The goal is to make a script that allows us to add or remove a language
from the dropdown menu, and have it propagated across all languages.

We already have one called toggle-lang (which lives in the root
directory of the repo) that comments and uncomments existing languages,
but it doesn't provide the functionality we need anymore.

Probably the easiest way is just for our script to take as an input a
file with the prewritten HTML for the whole language dropdown, but
however you'd like to do it is fine with me. On most of the languages,
the current language name is bolded and dilinkified to mark it as
active, but this isn't necessary for the first version of the script.

If you'd like to work on this, please develop and test it in a new
branch in development repository.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Zak Rogoff // Campaigns Manager

PS -- I know Therese already made a nice templating system that many of
you are using to build your indvidual translations. If anybody has a
separate proposal for using the same templating system to accomplish
this new task, that's welcome, but not at all necessary. Generating the
individual translated guides and setting the language options across all
pages on all of them do naturally seem like different tasks.

=2E.. now to actually set up the English translation with the templating
system, which I have been putting off...

Hi Zak,

Is the language list supposed to be the same for all pages and point
to index.[lang].html, or should each page have its own language list?

Hi,

Is anyone working on the translation of the Email Self-Defense guide
to Czech language?

I could possibly help with that.

Cheers,

Tomas

Hi

In the GNU/Linux section in the first sentence, in "#1 Get the pieces"
there's a link that points to:
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html
But that link doesn't exits in MacOS or Windows sections. =BFit's that ri=
ght?

and another question, when you click on it, the links open in the same
tab in your browser, I think that would be better open it in another tab
by default (IMO)

thnx

Probably not.

Anyway, to take advantage of MultiViews, the links should be:
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html

I just added them, and also made several minor fixes. This will save
Zak a few minutes.

> and another question, when you click on it, the links open in the

I think that's debatable. For example, Abrowser has an option that
says (in French): "Whenever a link opens in a new tab, switch to this
tab immediately". It turns out that in my system this option is
unchecked, probably by default. As a result, I switch to the new tabs
by hand, and sometimes get mixed up when 10 tabs are open. I find it
more convenient to read the linked page in the same tab. When I am
done, I return to the original page with the "back" button.

Best regards,
Th=C3=A9r=C3=A8se
